AIMS is recognised as the assessing authority for people seeking immigration to Australia for the following occupations:

Criteria:

1. Medical Laboratory Scientist (ANZSCO 234611)

Applicants can be assessed via three pathways for the occupation Medical Laboratory Scientist

- Option 1: Completion of an AIMS-accredited degree.
- Postgraduate experience is not required.
- Option 2: Acceptable science degree + 2 years postgraduate experience in a medical pathology laboratory (1 year within the last 5 years).
- An acceptable science degree is AQF level 7, 8, or 9 (or equivalent).
- Specific foundation and professional subjects are required.
- Option 3: Other acceptable qualifications/experience (as determined by AIMS).
If the degree is not AIMS accredited, the assessment has two stages: document assessment and a written exam.

2. Medical Laboratory Scientist (ANZSCO 234611) Specialisation: IVF Embryologist

The assessment process has two stages: document-based and a written exam.
Applicants with a specialized postgraduate degree (AQF level 9 or higher) in clinical embryology/reproductive biology AND 2 years of postgraduate experience in a registered/accredited IVF clinic may be classified as suitable without the written exam.

3. Medical Laboratory Technician (ANZSCO 311213)

The primary qualification in Australia is a 2-year diploma in laboratory technology (pathology testing).
AIMS will assess applicants for both Medical Laboratory Scientist (234611) and Medical Laboratory Technician (311213).

4. Pathology Collector/Phlebotomist (ANZSCO 311216)

The minimum qualification in Australia is a Certificate III in Pathology Collection (HLT37215) and current first aid certification.
Applicants need an award comparable to the Australian HLT37215 Certificate III, 2 years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience within the last 5 years, and a current first aid certificate.
