NAATI's Role in Skilled Migration:
- NAATI, owned by the Australian governments, sets standards for translators and interpreters.
- For migration, NAATI offers:
- Skills assessments for sponsored visas.
- Assessment of overseas qualifications.
- Assessment of skilled employment.
- Credentialed Community Language (CCL) points for some visas.
Skills Assessment (for Sponsored Visas):
- NAATI assesses if your skills are "suitable" for the occupation (Translator ANZSCO 272413 or Interpreter ANZSCO 272412).
- This requires NAATI Certification (Certified Interpreter or Translator).
- Assessments are valid for three years.
- This skill assessment is primarily for those that have been sponsored by an employer or nominated by a state or territory.
- State and Territory Nomination is required, as those occupations are not on the MLTSSL.
Assessment of Overseas Qualifications:
- NAATI can assess if your overseas translation/interpreting qualifications are equivalent to Australian standards.
- This can help you claim points for:
- Doctorate Degree (20 points).
- Bachelor or Masters Degree (15 points).
- Australian diploma or trade qualification (10 points).
- Other NAATI-recognized qualifications (10 points).
- A current NAATI credential is required for this assessment.
Assessment of Skilled Employment:
- NAATI can assess your skilled employment as a translator/interpreter (last 10 years).
- Points are awarded for:
- Australian employment: 5 (1-3 years), 10 (3-5 years), 15 (5-8 years), 20 (8-10 years).
- Overseas employment: 5 (3-5 years), 10 (5-8 years), 15 (8-10 years).
- Maximum 20 points can be claimed.
- Skilled employment is defined as at least 20 hours/week.
- A current NAATI credential is required for this assessment.

- Hold a valid NAATI credential.
