What is an aviation reference number (ARN) and why do I need one?
An ARN is like a customer number needed for any authorisation (e.g., license) with us. It's issued to legal entities only, not business names or partnerships, with one ARN per entity.
How can I find out what my ARN is?
If you applied for an ARN after July 2, 2018, check it on our ARN online application portal. For ARNs issued before that date, email us at applications@casa.gov.au.
Does everyone need an ARN?
Yes, anyone holding or planning to hold an authorisation needs an ARN. Organisations need an organisational ARN, while administrative staff do not need an individual ARN.
What identification do I need to apply for an ARN?
Individuals must provide 100 points of ID, such as a passport or driver's license. Organisations can use their ACN or a certificate of incorporation.
Why do you require 100 points of identification?
We need this to simplify your interactions with us. Once verified, you won’t need to prove your identity again unless contacting us.
How long will manual ID checks take?
Manual verification may take up to five days if automatic checks fail.
Why did my identity documents fail automatic validation?
Documents may not be recognized, especially foreign ones. If they fail, upload certified copies.
Who can certify my documents?
Various individuals can certify documents. View our list.
How do I update my ARN personal details?
Keep your contact details current to avoid issues. If you applied after July 2, 2018, you can update them online.
Why do you ask for my sex during ARN application?
This information is used for medical questionnaires in flight crew licence applications, in compliance with government guidelines.
What if I don't want my ARN anymore?
Email us at applications@casa.gov.au to close your ARN if you're no longer in aviation. Notify us if your organisation is no longer a legal entity.
