The Activities of the Council Include:
Accreditation of entry-level physiotherapy education programs offered by higher education providers
Assessment of qualifications and skills of overseas-qualified physiotherapists for registration and migration purposes
Provision of advice, recommendations and consulting services to the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and other relevant organizations, in relation to accreditation and assessment
National and international liaison with other professional bodies, regulators and educators on matters related to standards of education and practice and global recognition of physiotherapy qualifications
Maintenance and regular review of the Accreditation Standard

You must have a qualification from an Australian program on the Board’s Approved list
OR
A Council Certificate of Substantial Equivalence after completing the Equivalence of Qualification pathway
OR
A Council Final Certificate after completing the Standard Assessment pathway
OR
Current General Registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
OR
A current Annual Practising Certificate from the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
AND
Meet AHPRA’s English Language Skills Registration Standard for physiotherapists.
Standard Assessment Pathway Requirements:
- The Clinical Assessment evaluates your clinical skills in a simulated setting.
- It includes three practical assessments in musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy.
- All assessments occur in a simulated environment at the Council's Simulation Lab in Melbourne (VIC).
- To pass, you must demonstrate independent practice and effective consultations in all three areas.
- Successful candidates receive a Final Certificate that fulfills the qualification requirement for General Registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.
