Skilled Employer Sponsored (Provisional)
From November 16, 2019, the 494 skilled employer-sponsored visa will replace the 187 (RSMS) visa.
The 494 visa program will be given a total of 9,000 places each year. The 494 visa doesn't provide any imminent permanent residency, such as the 187 RSMS visa, but in the future a 494 visa holder may be eligible for the 191 skilled regional permanent residency visa
How can an employee nominate you to a 494 visa
You must fulfill the following elements: your employer should be located in a defined regional area of Australia (usually excluding employers in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne).
Newcastle, Wollongong and the NSW Central Coast regions will be designated as regional areas. Other regional areas include Perth, Gold Coast, Adelaide , Sunshine Coast, Canberra, and Geelong.
Your job is on the applicable occupation list (over 700 occupations) Your employer will need the Regional Certifying Body (RCB) approval in your area
The role must be full-time, legitimate and likely to be available for a period of five years.
Annual earnings should be a minium of $53,900
494 Visa requirements
Must hold a suitable skills assessment
Must be under 45 years of age.
Must have at least three years of full-time and relevant skilled work experience.
Must demonstrate Competent English
How does the 494 visa lead to permanent residency?
The 494 is a visa for five years. The Subclass 191 (Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa enables you to enter a permanent residence if the following is met:
1. You have been working for at least three years in the specified regional area while keeping a 494 visa
2. For three years, you can show earnings of at least $53,900 per year. If you have a partner included in your 494 application, the three-year annual salary (through tax returns) must be shown at or above $53,900. If they can show that they satisfy these criteria, the spouse can be the key applicant for the 191 visa.
