Key changes to Indian passport rules:
Mandatory Birth Certificates:
For individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, a birth certificate is now the sole accepted proof of date of birth.
This certificate must be issued by the Municipal Corporation, the Registrar of Births and Deaths, or another designated authority.
Those born before October 1, 2023, can still use alternative documents.
Digital Embedding of Residential Address:
Residential addresses will no longer be printed on the last page of passports.
Instead, this information will be embedded in a barcode for scanning by immigration authorities, enhancing privacy and security.
Color-Coding System:
A color-coding system is being implemented for easier identification:
White passports for government officials.
Red passports for diplomats.
Blue passports for ordinary citizens.
Omission of Parents' Names:
Parents' names will no longer be included on the last page of passports, enhancing privacy.
Expansion of Passport Seva Kendras:
The government is expanding the number of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) to improve accessibility and reduce waiting times.
These changes aim to modernize the passport application process, enhance security, and improve efficiency.
